Barcelona will host Rayo Vallecano in the 24th week of LaLiga at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, Tuesday (18/02) at 01.30 am IST. Blaugrana has the opportunity to return to the top of the standings.
However, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stressed that his team is currently only focused on producing good performances rather than looking at the standings. According to Flick, the title race is still long with 14 matches remaining.
"We don't need to look at the standings. There is still a long way to go. What we want to show is a good performance," Flick said on Barcelona's official website.
Barcelona currently sit third in the LaLiga standings with 48 points. Flick's men are just three points behind leaders Real Madrid.
Barcelona Focus on Themselves
If they can beat Vallecano, Barcelona will move to the top of the standings because they have a better goal difference than Madrid.
Barcelona were top of the table this season. But they were knocked out at the end of 2024.
"I feel the players want to show what kind of team they are and what kind of mentality they have. We want to keep improving," Flick said.
"The most important thing for me, what is my priority, is for the players to focus on themselves and not look beyond that."
"Being top of the table is certainly important, and it can help with confidence, but there is still a lot to do. So, first of all we have to play 90 minutes against Rayo and win, which will not be easy," added the former Bayern Munich coach.
