Chelsea Can't Win, Enzo Maresca: It's Normal

Chelsea failed to win when they met Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Playing at the Samford Bridge Stadium, London, Sunday (1/9/2024), Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca said that was normal.

"Maybe one thing to be clear, Chelsea three years ago won the Champions League, but now Chelsea is not like that. So now sometimes if you don't win, it's normal," said Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca.

This season, Chelsea spent hundreds of millions of US dollars to buy new players. Unfortunately, Chelsea's big spending has not brought positive impacts.

Chelsea have won just one of their first three league games this season. After being beaten by Manchester City, the Blues showed promise with a 6-2 win over Wolverhampton last weekend. However, against Palace, Chelsea failed to secure all three points.

Eberechi Eze's curling strike from the edge of the area in the 53rd minute secured a point for Palace, who spent much of the summer transfer window desperately trying to hold on to their best players. Eze falls into that category.

Chelsea, on the other hand, brought in 12 players, at a cost of around $290 million. However, only one new player, Pedro Neto, started against Palace at Stamford Bridge. The two players recruited last year combined for the opening goal in the 25th minute when Nicolas Jackson latched onto a Cole Palmer pass.

Chelsea have four points from a possible nine, having started the season with defeat to Manchester City.

The Blues are stuck in 11th place with 4 points, while Palace are in 16th place with 1 point.
