Real Madrid has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will wear number 9. Mbappe is following in the footsteps of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
The question mark of the number that Mbappe will wear at Real Madrid has finally been answered. The French striker will wear the number 9. This number was worn by Cristiano Ronaldo when he arrived at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo got number 9 because at that time number 7 was still owned by Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez.
Mbappe reportedly opted not to wear the number 10 shirt he wears for the national team. Mbappe did not choose this number in honour of Luka Modric.
Following a disappointing showing at Euro 2024, the burden now rests heavily on Mbappe's shoulders. He will have to perform at his best if he is to continue the achievements of previous Madrid stars who have worn the number 9, such as Ronaldo Nazario de Lima, Karim Benzema, Emilio Butragueno and Alfredo Di Stefano.
Mbappe leaves Paris Saint-Germain having scored 256 goals and 108 assists in 308 games. The 25-year-old has also scored 48 goals in 84 appearances for France.
Real Madrid plans to officially introduce Mbappe to the public at the Santiago Bernabeu on July 16 local time.
