Euro 2024 Semifinalists Statistics: Spain-Dutch Superior, England-France Mediocre

The most prestigious European football championship, Euro 2024, has entered the semifinal phase. The 4 best teams advance to this round: Spain, France, England, and the Netherlands.

According to the chart, Spain will face France at the Allianz Arena, Munich, Wednesday (10/7) early morning IST. Meanwhile, England challenges the Netherlands at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund, on Thursday (11/7) in the early morning IST.

These four semifinalists have different records. Some are superior, and some are mediocre.


Spain

According to data from Transfermarkt and Opta, Spain is the most superior, never feeling a defeat from the group phase. La Furia Roja pocketed 9 points from 3 matches, placing the team coached by Luis de la Fuente to qualify for the last 16 as Group B winners.

Alvaro Morata et al. won over Croatia (3-0), Italy (1-0), and Albania (1-0). In the last 16, Spain defeated Georgia 4-1. Then, they silenced Germany in the quarter-finals with a score of 2-1.

In total, Spain scored 11 goals and conceded only 2. They had a passing accuracy of 90.2 percent, and made 102 attempts, 35 of which were on target.

Netherlands

The Netherlands is the second team that is arguably better than England and France. The Oranje qualified for the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. In Group D, Ronald Koeman's boys collected 4 points, from a 2-1 win over Poland, a 0-0 draw against France, and a 2-3 loss to Austria.

In the round of 16, the Netherlands beat Romania 3-0. Then in the quarter-finals, Virgil van Dijk et al. won 2-1 over Turkey.

In total, the Netherlands scored 9 goals and conceded five. They had a passing accuracy of 88.6 percent, 74 attempts, 20 of which were on target.

England

England have a mediocre statistical record. As Group C champions, England only collected 5 points, the result of winning over Serbia (1-0), and drawing against Denmark (1-1) and Slovenia (0-0).

In the last 16, The Three Lions struggled to send Slovakia home with a score of 2-1 after extra time. Likewise in the quarter-finals, they struggled to beat Switzerland on penalties 5-3 (1-1).

England scored 5 goals in total, and conceded 3. Harry Kane et al. only fired 57 shots, of which only 15 were on target.

France

France are the semi-finalists with the fewest goals at Euro 2024. Qualifying as runners-up in Group D, Les Bleus collected 5 points, from a 1-0 win over Austria, as well as a 0-0 draw against the Netherlands and 1-1 against Poland.

In the round of 16, France sent Belgium home with a score of 1-0. In the quarter-finals, France defeated Portugal on penalties with a score of 5-3 (0-0).

France scored only three goals and conceded one. Worse still, France's only goals came from Kylian Mbappe's penalty kick, and two own goals. There were no goals from open play. France had 89 attempts, 21 of which were on target.
