Nico Williams was Spain's star in the Euro 2024 final against England at the Olympiastadion Berlin, Monday (15/7) IST. Now that he has won Euro 2024, Williams has asked his teammates to turn their attention to the 2026 World Cup.
"I'm very happy; our fans deserve this. We won the Euros, and now we are going to the World Cup in the United States," Williams was quoted as saying by Football Espana.
In the final, Williams gave Spain a 1-0 lead. But England equalised through Cole Palmer before Mikel Oyarzabal sealed victory for Spain to claim their fourth European Championship trophy.
Undoubtedly, the 22-year-old will have a very important role for Spain in the next few years.
However, before targeting the 2026 World Cup, La Roja will first play in the Nations League in September against Serbia and Switzerland before the 2026 World Cup European qualifying matches, starting in December.
Currently, Williams is a player who is wanted by many clubs. Chelsea is said to be one of his admirers. However, all clubs targeting him must compete with Barcelona, reportedly at the forefront.
